Whether you provide housing, support the industry, or want to advance rental housing policy, there’s a membership for you.

New applications for membership may take up to 24 hours for approval. Each application is carefully reviewed to ensure compliance with our bylaws and to maintain the integrity and security of our membership community.

Regular Member

For individuals or entities that own residential rental property in Berkeley.

Regular Members include rental housing providers, property managers, and property management firms. A Regular Membership is valid for one year and provides exclusive access to BPOA’s comprehensive collection of Rental Housing Forms, carefully crafted by legal experts to meet Berkeley-specific leasing requirements.

As a member of our trade association, you gain essential support, education, and resources to help you successfully manage your own rental properties. Whether you own one unit or an entire portfolio, our membership is designed to give independent rental housing providers the tools and confidence to operate efficiently, stay legally compliant, and maximize returns.

Membership Details & Pricing:

Membership dues include a $395 base fee plus $35 per rental unit per parcel.
(This applies whether you own the property yourself or fractionally with other partners.)

BRHC Member

For rental housing providers focused on legal and political advocacy through the Berkeley Rental Housing Coalition.

The Berkeley Rental Housing Coalition (BRHC) is BPOA’s legal and political advocacy division. BRHC Members hold an elevated membership status and provide critical financial support to advance fair and balanced rental housing policies. With the guidance of a dedicated Government & Legal Affairs Director, BRHC represents your interests at City Hall, before the Rent Board, and in broader legislative discussions impacting Berkeley housing providers.

As a BRHC Member, you receive all the benefits of Regular Membership plus additional advocacy-driven support and direct communications to keep you ahead of policy changes. This level of membership is designed for owners who recognize the importance of sustained political engagement and want to ensure their voices are heard in shaping Berkeley’s rental housing landscape.

Membership dues are calculated at $150 per rental unit of ownership, with a minimum annual fee of $500.
Membership is valid for one year and renewed annually.

Associate Member

For businesses and service providers who work with the rental housing industry but do not own, manage, or lease property in Berkeley.

Associate Members gain visibility through:

  • A featured listing in our Industry Partner Directory.

  • The opportunity to showcase products or services by hosting a 30–60 minute Zoom webinar or contributing one article per year (500 words or fewer) to our monthly newsletter. Presentations and articles must be educational in nature and may not serve as direct sales pitches.

  • A 10% discount on annual newsletter advertising rates.

Supporting Member

For individuals who want to support BPOA’s mission but do not provide housing or services to rental property owners.

Supporting Members are community allies who share our commitment to fair and balanced housing policy in Berkeley. While they are not actively involved in providing rental housing, their membership strengthens BPOA’s legislative, political, and legal advocacy work on behalf of local housing providers.

Support for Advocacy: Contribute to BPOA’s efforts to protect property rights, promote equitable rental housing policies, and ensure independent housing providers have a voice in local decision-making.

BPOA Newsletter Subscription: Receive a complimentary subscription to BPOA’s monthly newsletter to stay informed about important policy updates, industry developments, and association news.

Supporting Memberships are valid for one year and require a minimum annual contribution of $150.

For licensed real estate professionals who manage, lease, buy, or sell rental housing in Berkeley, but do not own rental property in Berkeley.
