The California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) is hosting a free informational webinar for owners of older multi-unit residential buildings interested in the Earthquake Multi-Unit Retrofit (EMR) grant program.

The EMR program provides grant funding to help eligible property owners seismically retrofit vulnerable soft-story buildings—typically wood-framed, multi-story buildings with tuck-under parking or other open ground-floor space. During the webinar, CRMP staff will explain:

  • Program eligibility
  • Available grant funding
  • The application process
  • Seismic retrofit requirements
  • How retrofits help protect residents, preserve housing, and reduce earthquake damage

This webinar is especially relevant for owners of:

  • Buildings that have received a mandatory soft-story retrofit notice from their city
  • Wood-framed, multi-story residential buildings built before 1991
  • Buildings with 5–10 dwelling units and tuck-under or similar open ground-floor parking

The webinar is particularly applicable to properties located in cities with mandatory soft-story retrofit ordinances, including:

  • Albany
  • Berkeley
  • Mill Valley
  • Oakland
  • San Francisco
  • San Jose

Whether you've already received a retrofit notice or simply want to learn more before the EMR registration period opens in August 2026, this webinar is an excellent opportunity to understand the program and have your questions answered.
