Notice to Tenants re: Soft Story Building
This is to notify you that the building at
____________________________________, Berkeley,
California is on the City of Berkeley’s Inventory of Potentially Hazardous Soft
Story Buildingsand may constitute a severe threat to life safety in the event of an earthquake ofmoderate to highmagnitude.
This notice is required by Berkeley Municipal Code (BMC) Chapter 19.39.
This chapter alsorequires that the building be analyzed by a civil or structural to determine its seismicvulnerability.
For purposes of the program, soft story buildings are those buildings
constructed prior to 1997,containing at least five residential units and typically having tuck-under parking or a store front on the first floor.
